The Woman behind Virgin, Saints & Angels

Just a few weeks ago, Love My Swag hosted designer Cheryl Finnegan of Virgins, Saints and Angels at their NorthPark Mall location in Dallas, Texas. Finnegan’s trunk show at SWAG also served as a release for her new Tribal VSA collection as well as a SWAG exclusive Magdalena necklace.

Over the years we’ve worked with Cheryl Finnegan, the SWAG team has gotten to know a bit about who she is and how she came up with this unforgettable VSA line. We wanted to let you guys in on a bit about this remarkable designer, the woman behind Virgins, Saints and Angels.

Right after a bad divorce and unexpected lay off, a spontaneous trip to the Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende gave Cheryl Finnegan the inspiration to design her now acclaimed line of high-end jewelry, Virgins, Saints and Angels. Launched more than a decade ago, the “Celtic meets Gothic meets Mexico” Virgins, Saints and Angels line reaches far beyond its roots in Mexico – from Britney Spears’ 2004 Californian honeymoon to a 2008 John Galliano runway in Paris.

The Virgins, Saints and Angels collection still serves as a positive tribute to strong women everywhere. Finnegan employs 12 women across the United States and Mexico, working together to bring together the iconic VSA necklaces and other VSA jewelry.

Not only did Cheryl “Finn” Finnegan find the inspiration behind Virgins, Saints and Angels after her move to Mexico, but she found love, as well. Finnegan recently wed Mexican artist Jaime Shelley Tovar, the father of her 6-year-old daughter Tallulah.

Jaime Shelley Tovar views his paintings with similar personal investment like Finnegan views her Virgins, Saints and Angels collection. And just like Finnegan challenged jewelry norms by her contrasting, unique ideas, Shelley breaks boundaries and doesn’t fit into any particular painting category. “I’m not interested in being part of a specific style or trend; my interest is art for art’s sake; that is, to tell what is inside me… No conditions, no bearings, except those dictated by me,” he writes on his Facebook fan page.
