Putting Together a Punk Rock Look with Jewelry

Arch Wing Skull Ring
Who says punk isn’t couture? There’s no better time than now to channel your inner punk-rock self. As demonstrated by the celebs, most recently at the fashionable Met Gala, the punk rock look is in – so get your metals and studs out.

If you’re in the mood to play some homage to the rock & rollers of the past, than you’re on trend. Decking yourself out in edgy pieces is a fun way to add some fierceness to your look. However, there are a few guidelines to follow to help you put together the best punk rock look. Rocker inspired motifs such as studs, metals, skulls, and leather can look quite stylish, but this punk-rock look is easy to over do.
King Baby Studio Earrings with Skulls and Traditional Cross

Keep It Simple: This look can end up looking extreme, so try to keep it toned done and mixed rock pieces with more simple or delicate looks. For example, incorporate a skull motif into your look with a rink or bracelet, but avoid wearing skull pieces all at once. King Baby Studio has a great selection of skull pieces, such as the Arch Wing Skull Ring.
Dark Magdalena Necklace

Layer: Mix two trends in one. You can add some chicness while still perfecting that edgy-rock look by layering with necklaces or bracelets. For example, find a studded cuff and stack it with delicate gold, silver, or jeweled bracelets. It’s the same for layering your necklaces. Choose rock star inspired necklace, like the Virgin, Saints, and AngelsDark Magdalena necklace, and layer with more subdued chains.
Thomas Sabo Leather Bracelet

Wardrobe Combos: Punk-rock themed jewelry is oftentimes very noticeable. It naturally gives off a fierce look. This punk-rock jewelry look tends to be more statement oriented. Just like other statement jewelry pieces, you want to have only one attention-grabbing piece. Keep the rest of your jewelry to a minimum or choose more complimentary pieces to pair with your statement piece. This rule applies to your clothing as well. You can’t go wrong pairing your punk inspired pieces with a LBD or a killer leather jacket. Band shirts are also a natural pairing, just avoid putting too many of these items together because it will end up looking too forced and less stylish.

SWAG Highlight: Cocktail Rings

Garnishing our hands with beautiful cocktail rings has been a classic fashion trend for decades. Making its first appearance in the roaring twenties, fashionable women of that time would showcase their modern day style by proudly wearing cocktail rings while casually sipping on their champagne. From the 1920’s to 1950’s, these bold and oversized rings continued to make an appearance at all of the fashionable social gatherings and parties. Cocktail rings have continued to remain a popular accessory for party-goers, looking to add some glamour to their style.

Whether it’s one large gem or a colorful cluster of gems or stones, cocktail rings come in many various shapes and styles. Regardless of the style, cocktail rings are a must-have for all seasons.

Depending on your own style, you can change the look of an outfit simply with a cocktail ring. If you want a more demure, 20s inspired look, accessorize your hand with a single oversized gem. Choose a ring that looks understated from afar, yet has enough refined elegance to draw any eye up towards it once up-close. Now for the girls who want to make an instant statement and aren’t afraid of bling, then dress up two or more of your fingers in jeweled baubles.

The Art of Layering Necklaces

Layering your necklaces is a great way to add some drama and glamour to any look. It’s also a major jewelry trend that has garnered a huge following in the fashion world this year. One of the nice things about this jewelry trend is that it affords you a lot of room to personalize your own style. While there may be many different ways to layer necklaces, there is still a specific art to necklace layering. Here are some strategies to follow if you want to master the look
Miriam Haskell 24" Pearl Strand Necklace

Lengths: Make sure your necklaces are varying in lengths and staggered. You don’t want to have two necklaces lying on top of each other.
Jose and Maria Barrera 39" Beaded Necklace

Mixing: Mixing different media, like gems and beads, are great because they add texture and character. Layering with different metals, like gold and silver, can also make a chic fashion statement. There’s a lot of room for you to be playful when you’re accessorizing, but make sure there’s a common theme or look matching each necklace. For example, you can match up the textures for two of the three necklaces and make the third necklace share some common similarity with at least one of the two.
King Baby Studio 38" Fine Curb Necklace with Crosses

Don’t Get Too Chunky: Your longest necklace usually looks best when it’s the slimmest. As the necklaces become shorter, or closer to the neck, they can increase in width.

Shoot For Three: When it comes to layering, more than three necklaces tend to be distracting. Unless your necklaces run on the more simple side, try to keep your necklaces to around three.

Play Around & Personalize: Don’t be afraid to get a little funky. Sometimes different lengths, textures or colors that you wouldn’t necessarily pair together may actually look great once they’re on. Also, don’t be afraid to mix your old jewelry with your newer pieces – it’s okay to be a little playful with your look.

Tip: Look for necklaces that have adjustable clasps at the back. Adjustable necklaces that can be lengthened or shortened are awesome when it comes to layering.

Why Do We Wear Jewelry?

Jewelry is a great way to express yourself and to tie any outfit together, but why do we actually wear it? When did people begin to wear jewelry and why? If you have ever found yourself wondering this and want answers, we have them here for you. Read further to understand a little bit more about why we wear jewelry.

Pandora Brown Tripe Leather Friendship Bracelet
The first known jewelry pieces date back to around 75,000 years ago. The earliest pieces of jewelry were typically made out of animal hide, leather, or reeds and were decorated with items such as animal teeth, bones, feathers, shells, pebbles, and berries. Some of our pieces, such as our Pandora Brown Tripe Leather Friendship Bracelet, are inspired by these early pieces and use leather to create a simple look. The use of gold and gems in jewelry can be traced back to Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures. Since then, adorning oneself with jewelry has been consistent across time, religions, cultures, class, and gender. A well-known theory to why people began to wear jewelry is to satisfy their higher needs.

You may be aware of the famous Maslow pyramid that displays our “Hierarchy of Needs.” What this pyramid conveys is several layers of human’s needs that have to be met in order for us to be completely happy or fulfilled. At the most basic level is our physiological needs, such as hunger and thirst. Next comes safety, then love and belonging, then esteem, and finally self-actualization.
Pandora Birthday Blooms Ring
The need for jewelry could be considered to fall somewhere among social needs and esteem needs. It can fit into the social category because of people’s needs to belong to a group, and it can fit into esteem because of people’s desire of recognition and status.

A way to identify with others through jewelry is the shared meaning we have created through it. For instance, with birthstones, someone wearing their particular stone representing their birth month may identify with someone else wearing the same stone. One birthstone item that we carry is the Pandora Birthday Blooms Ring.

Mawi Teardrop Crystal Earrings
Jewelry satisfies esteem needs by being an assertion of one’s wealth and status. It shows that lower needs, such as food and shelter have been met, so now higher needs can be addressed. Jewelry is a universal show of status because of its inherent value and natural beauty. We don’t possess anything like the natural splendor of a peacock, so instead, we use sparkly, colorful, and splendid stones and metals. For example, our Mawi Teardrop Crystal Earrings bring beauty and décor with eye-catching colors. Jewelry also implies things that would be impolite or crass to say, such as one’s status in society, or even their marital status, through the wedding band.

This is one of many theories why people began to wear jewelry and why we still wear it today. One thing that we do know for sure- jewelry is a timeless piece of beauty here to stay. To stay on top of current jewelry trends, view our edgy designer jewelry at our NorthPark Jewelry store!

The Art of Layering Rings

One way to draw attention to your hands is to layer rings on your fingers. Wearing multiple pieces can be a fun way to spice up an outfit or to add some drama to an everyday look. The trick to this trend is to have your jewelry look cohesive but effortless. It can be easy to go overboard, so here are some tips on how to successfully layer rings.

Stick to simplistic rings.
King Baby Studios Small Bow Ring
Pandora Celebration Ring
One way to wear a lot without looking overpowering is to stack bands on different fingers. This look will surely bring people’s eyes to your rings, and add effortless style to your outfit. A beautiful yet simple ring such as this King Baby Studios Small Bow Ring has plenty of personality but can pair well with other pieces on a hand. Looking for a ring that could go above or beneath the bow, why not this Pandora Celebration Ring? These two are perfect examples on how to wear two rings on the same
finger without it being too much.

Every finger can be a ring finger.
Thomas Sabo Clear Zirconia Arabesque Ring
Some may be scared to stray away from their ring finger when it comes to wearing rings, but all of your fingers deserve to be accented with beautiful pieces. Putting a ring on your thumb or pinky may be the perfect way to make your hand look complete. This Thomas Sabo Clear Zirconia Arabesque Ring will bring some bling to any finger you choose.

Choose a focal point on your hand.
Virgin, Saints, and Angels Crystal Ring
When you are picking out rings, you may want to put every attention grabber on at one time. We suggest that you choose one statement piece and let all of your other pieces accent your showstopper. One ring that will surely make this statement is this Virgin, Saints, and Angels Crystal Ring. When you are wearing this ring around your finger, it will be hard for anyone to stop staring at it.

We carry all of the current jewelry trends so you will never run out of options with us. If you are looking for more rings that you could layer on your fingers, check out our Dallas jewelry store or visit our online jewelry store at lovemyswag.com.
